Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards continued his statewide tour meeting with business leaders and elected officials from the Northshore area where he lead discussions seeking avenues for collaboration and consensus on strategies to stabilize the state budget long-term and avoid the imminent $1 billion fiscal cliff. Today’s meeting was the sixth in a series that Gov. Edwards is hosting around Louisiana in an effort to bring diverse partners to the table for honest and urgent discussions.
“This is now the sixth round of meetings I have facilitated across the state of Louisiana with the goal of soliciting feedback and ideas from the business community and local officials. Our hope is to find understanding and common ground on the best strategies to stabilize our budget and avoid the serious fiscal cliff,” said Gov. Edwards. “In these meetings around the state, again and again, I’ve seen a willingness to better understand the complex nature of our fiscal challenges and a desire to play a role in helping our state emerge better than we found it. From what I am hearing in these discussions, it is clear to me that we have a real opportunity to stand on common ground and put Louisiana on better financial footing for generations to come.”
