Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils, announced that three of Louisiana’s elementary schools have been selected to each receive a Don’t Quit! Fitness Center. The multi-million dollar physical fitness campaign has named Park Elementary School in Baton Rouge, Luling Elementary School in Luling and Valverda Elementary School in Maringouin the state’s most outstanding schools for demonstrating leadership in getting and keeping their students fit.
“Partnering with Jake Steinfeld and the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Centers to bring the Don’t Quit! Fitness campaign to Louisiana is a giant step forward in helping our kids get fit and stay healthy,” said Gov. Edwards. “I want to congratulate Park Elementary, Luling Elementary and Valverda Elementary for being named fitness champions. Each school will be awarded a new fitness center that will help put them on the path to good health.”
The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils program will make its way into all 50 states in the coming years. Each fitness center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Anthem Foundation and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment, which is manufactured right here in the United States. The Foundation’s goal is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world.
“When I declared war on childhood obesity, I knew it would take an army of leaders to make a difference. I was thrilled when Governor Edwards joined our efforts to help put a stop to this disease in Louisiana,” said Jake "Body by Jake" Steinfeld. “The National Foundation is really excited to award three Louisiana schools with new fitness centers that will have a lasting impact on kids and their community now, and well into their future!”
These state-of-the-art DON’T QUIT! Fitness Centers will be unveiled during ribbon cutting ceremonies this fall.
