BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the reappointment of Whalen Gibbs to the Risk Review Panel of South Louisiana.
The Risk Review Panel is responsible for reviewing presentence reports, prison records, medical and psychological records, information and data gathered by the staffs of the Board of Pardons and the Board of Parole, information provided by the convicted person, the district attorney, the assistant district attorney, and any other information obtained by the boards or the Department of Public Safety and Corrections in order to determine that if person will not present a risk of danger to society if released from confinement. The panel may recommend that the person be considered for clemency by the Board of Pardons or recommend that the person be considered for parole by the Board of Parole.
Gubernatorial appointments to the panel consist of a retired judge with criminal law experience, and a probation or parole officer with a minimum of ten years experience.
Whalen Gibbs, of Lafayette, is the assistant secretary of adult services at the Department of Public Safety and Corrections. Gibbs will be reappointed to serve as a probation or parole officer with a minimum of ten years experience, as required by statute.
