Governor Jindal Announces Capital Outlay Funding for Southwest Louisiana

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the capital construction proposal for the next fiscal year (FY 2015), which includes millions in funding for projects in Southwest Louisiana. The proposal was submitted last week to the Legislature in the form of House Bill 2 and includes several investments in higher education and infrastructure projects.

Governor Jindal said, “These investments will build on our work to improve learning environments, make our roads safer for families, and make Louisiana more attractive to companies who want to expand or invest in our state.”

Higher Education investments in the Southwest Region include:
  • $2.8 million for an emergency room expansion for the University Medical Center in Lafayette Parish;
  • $1.78 million for an air handler replacement at the LSU Health Sciences Center Health Care Services Division in Lafayette Parish;
  • $1.185 million for the Health and Human Performance Education Complex at McNeese State University in Calcasieu Parish, with an additional $15.31 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $16.5 million;
  • $1 million for ADA upgrades campus-wide for McNeese State University in Calcasieu Parish;
  • $1 million for the Shearman Fine Arts Building renovations at McNeese State University in Calcasieu Parish, with an additional $2.7 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $3.7 million;
  • $260,000 for Alpha Hall renovations at McNeese State University in Calcasieu Parish.
Infrastructure investments in the Southwest Region include:
  • $3 million for the widening of Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette Parish, with an additional $2.94 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $5.94 million;
  • $2 million for the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge in Calcasieu Parish;
  • $1 million for the Cove Lane interchange and improvements in Calcasieu Parish;
  • $1 million in new Priority 5 funding for the relocation of railroad tracks along Sallier Street in Calcasieu Parish;
  • $1 million for infrastructure improvements for economic development in Calcasieu Parish, with an additional $1 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $2 million;
  • $825,000 for Crosby, Butler, and Pleasant Hill road repairs in Beauregard Parish;
  • $700,000 for the reconstruction of South Bernard Road from LA Hwy 182 to US Hwy 90 in Lafayette Parish, with an additional $4 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $4.7 million;
  • $500,000 for the Apollo Road extension in Lafayette Parish;
  • $420,000 for bridge repairs in Crowley on Northern Avenue in Acadia Parish;
  • $400,000 for land acquisition and rehabilitation of an existing bulkhead for the West Calcasieu Port in Calcasieu Parish;
  • $310,000 for an addition to Building #3101 at the Chennault Industrial Air Park in Calcasieu Parish, with an additional $2.47 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $2.78 million;
  • $150,000 for improvements to South Bernard Road from Ambassador Caffery to LA Hwy 182 in Lafayette Parish, with an additional $1.83 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $1.98 million;
  • $95,000 for construction on Verot School Road in Lafayette Parish;
  • $35,000 for North Avenue O drainage improvements in Crowley in Acadia Parish.
Additional investments in the Southwest Region:
  • $3.9 million for Camp Atchafalaya acquisition, planning, design, and construction in St. Martin Parish, with an additional $51.7 million in new Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $55.6 million;
  • $1.74 million for the replacement of air handlers and chillers at W.O. Moss in Calcasieu Parish;
