BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Howard Westman to the Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition.
The Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition serves to regulate the practice of dietitians and nutritionists by granting licenses to qualified applicants.
According to statute, the board is comprised of seven gubernatorial appointments, subject to Senate confirmation. One member must be a licensed registered nurse selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana State Nurses Association and one member must be a licensed physician selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana State Medical Society.
Additionally, one member must have a baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a major course of study in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management and is selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry. The remaining four members must be licensed dietitians and nutritionists selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Dietetic Association.
Howard Westman, of New Orleans, is a physician and is the owner of Westman Forensic Medicine. Westman will be appointed to serve as a licensed physician nominated by the Louisiana State Medical Society, as required by statute.
