Sep 10, 2012 BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Thomas Grimstad to the Louisiana Racing Commission. The Louisiana Racing Commission serves to enforce rules and regulations, propose legislation, and develop policies for the Louisiana racing industry. Furthermore, it ensures the legitimate performance of all racing animals and the accountability of pari-mutuel wagering in Louisiana. According to statute, the board is composed of 13 gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. There must be one member from each congressional district, two members at-large and four members from each of the following parishes having active racetracks: Calcasieu, St. Landry, Bossier and Orleans. Thomas Grimstad, of Metairie, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Company (LMMICO). Grimstad will be appointed to serve as a member at-large, as required by statute. ### |
