Governor Bobby Jindal Announces the Appointment of William T. Bergeron to the Board of Commissioners for the Port of New Orleans

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of William T. Bergeron to the Board of Commissioners for the Port of New Orleans.

The Board of Commissioners for the Port of New Orleans serves to regulate the commerce and traffic of the port and harbor of New Orleans. 

According to statute, the board is comprised of seven members, subject to senate confirmation. Four members must have their principal place of business in Orleans Parish and are selected from nominations submitted by the nominating committee which shall be composed as follows: 

Chamber of Commerce of the New Orleans Area, the New Orleans Board of Trade, Ltd., the New Orleans Steamship Association, the International Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association of New Orleans, Inc., the Maritime Trade's Council of Greater New Orleans and Vicinity, the Metropolitan Area Committee, the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, Dillard University, Xavier University, the World Trade Center, the Greater New Orleans Barge Fleeting Association, the Propeller Club of the United States and the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO. 

Two members must have their principal place of business in Jefferson Parish and are selected from nominations submitted by the Harvey Canal Industrial Association, the East Bank Council of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, the West Bank Council of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, the Maritime Trade's Council of Greater New Orleans and Vicinity, the Louisiana Farm Bureau, the Greater New Orleans AFL-CIO and the Jefferson Business Council. 

The remaining member must have their principle place of business in St. Bernard Parish and is selected from nominations submitted by the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce, the St. Bernard Port, Harbor and Terminal District, the Maritime Trade's Council of Greater New Orleans and Vicinity and the Louisiana Farm Bureau.

William T. Bergeron, of Arabi, is the CEO of Bergeron Resources, LLC & Affiliated Companies. Bergeron was nominated by the Saint Bernard Chamber of Commerce and will be appointed to serve as a representative of Saint Bernard Parish, as required by statute.
