BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Floyd Buras, Jr. to the Fluoridation Advisory Board.

The Fluoridation Advisory Board serves to assist any public water system with at least five thousand service connections by seeking and obtaining funding for the fluoridation of its system. 

According to statute, the board is comprised of 14 members, subject to senate confirmation. All gubernatorial appointees are based on recommendations submitted by the Louisiana Dental Association and include a practicing dentist from each of the nine administrative regions of the Department of Health and Hospitals, a representative of the Maternal and Child Health Coalition, a representative of the Louisiana State Medical Society, a representative of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, a state licensed dental hygienist and a representative of the Louisiana Rural Water Association. 

Dr. Floyd Buras, Jr., MD, of Metairie, is a pediatrician and a member of the American Medical Association. Buras will be appointed to serve as a nominee from the Louisiana State Medical Society, as required by statute.
