BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Arthur Bellanger to the Grand Isle Independent Levee District.
The Grand Isle Independent Levee District is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the levees and maintaining the levee drainage system within South Jefferson Parish on the west side of the Mississippi River.
According to statute, the board is comprised of three gubernatorial appointments which are subject to senate confirmation and includes members selected from the nominations submitted by the levee district’s legislative delegation. Additionally, each member must have resided in this state for two years, resided in the levee district for the preceding year, be a qualified voter of one of the parishes included in the district, and reside in the district while serving as a member of the board.
Arthur Bellanger, of Grand Isle, is retired from Conoco and owns a charter fishing company. Bellanger will be appointed to serve as a gubernatorial appointee who is nominated by the levee district’s legislative delegation, as required by statute.
