Governor Bobby Jindal Announces the Reappointment of Joseph Ardoin to the Prison Enterprises Board

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the reappointment of Joseph Ardoin to the Prison Enterprises Board.

The Prison Enterprises Board serves to lower the cost of incarcerating inmates by utilizing the resources of the Department of Safety and Corrections in the production of food, fiber, and other necessities used by inmates. Additionally the board provides products and services to state and parish agencies, municipalities, public employees, and other political subdivisions and offers lawful work opportunities to inmates.

According to the statute, the board is comprised of seven gubernatorial reappointments to be submitted to the senate for confirmation, including:
  • One member knowledgeable in agronomy with experience as a farmer for the production of field crops for commercial purposes;
  • One member possessing technical and practical knowledge and experience in forest management;
  • One member specializing in livestock management, dairy operations, or both;
  • One owner or operator of a facility engaged in the processing of the types of agricultural products produced by prison enterprises;
  • One member specializing in manufacturing;
  • One member selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry; and
  • One member selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana AFL-CIO.
Joseph Ardoin, of Greenwell Springs, is the administrator of the Health and Welfare Pension fund for the Carpenters Union. Ardoin will be reappointed to serve as a nominee of the Louisiana AFL-CIO, as required by statute.
