Governor Bobby Jindal Announces the Appointment of Stephen Kantrow to the Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board

BATON ROUGE- Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Stephen Kantrow to the Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board.

The Louisiana Cancer and Lung Trust Fund Board serves to reduce the risk, incidence, morbidity, mortality, and economic impact of cancer on citizens of the state by planning and monitoring statewide efforts in education, early detection, screening, prevention, research, and surveillance.

According to statue, the board is comprised of twelve gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Members include one representative from each of the following entities:
  • Tulane University School of Medicine; 
  • Louisiana State University School of Medicine at New Orleans; 
  • Louisiana State University School of Medicine at Shreveport; 
  • Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation; 
  • American Cancer Society, Louisiana Division, Inc.; 
  • American Lung Association of Louisiana, Inc.; 
  • Leukemia Society of America, Inc., Louisiana Chapter; 
  • Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Radiation and Research Foundation, Inc.; 
  • Xavier University School of Pharmacy; 
  • Louisiana State Medical Society;
  • Acadiana Medical Research Foundation; and 
  • American Heart Association’s Louisiana chapter 
Stephen Kantrow, MD, of New Orleans, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. He has been extremely active internationally, leading an effort to develop a global pulmonary exchange program in tobacco-related diseases. Dr. Kantrow will be appointed to serve as a representative of the American Lung Association of Louisiana, Inc., as required by statute.
