BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced appointments to the Board of Commissioners of the Lafourche Basin Levee District.
The Board of Commissioners of Lafourche Basin Levee District is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the levees and maintaining the levee drainage system of the Lafourche Basin.
According to statute, the board is comprised of eleven gubernatorial appointments which are subject to Senate confirmation. One member is nominated from the legislative delegation from each of the following parishes: Ascension, Assumption, St. James, and St. John the Baptist. Two members are nominated from St. Charles Parish’s legislative delegation and five members are nominated by the district’s legislative delegation and will serve as at-large members.
Appointments to the Board of Commissioners of the Lafourche Basin Levee District:
John Boughton, of Vacherie, is a retired superintendent of the St. James Parish School Board and is a veteran of the United States Army. Boughton will be reappointed to serve as an at-large member, as required by statute.
James “Pie” Jasmin, of Vacherie, is retired. Jasmin will be appointed to serve as an at-large member, as required by statute.
Whitney Jasmin, Jr., of Vacherie, is retired from Noranda Aluminum. Jasmin will be appointed to serve as a representative of St. John the Baptist Parish, as required by statute.
