Gov. Jindal Announces $500,000 in Capital Outlay Projects For Homer Memorial Hospital Equipment and Homer Town Hall

HOMER – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that more than $500,000 in new funding for Homer capital outlay projects has been submitted to the State Bond Commission for approval, including new medical equipment for Homer Memorial Hospital and additional support for the ongoing Homer Town Hall renovation project. The funding will purchase a new mammogram machine and a new bone density machine for the hospital, increasing access to services for patients in the rural area.

Governor Jindal said, “These projects are great news for Homer and Claiborne Parish, and will help increase access to health care services for residents in the region. Currently, patients in Claiborne often have to travel outside of the parish to get a mammogram at other hospitals. But with this new machine, residents will be able to get a high quality mammogram with some of the newest technology available. This technology will provide more accurate and faster screenings for early breast cancer detection, and could help to save many lives. Currently, patients in need of bone density scans only have one option in the parish, forcing folks in need of care to take a long drive and then wait even longer for the services. With the new bone density machine, patients will have quicker access to a bone density scan. The bottom line is that this technology will help Homer Memorial Hospital increase access to cutting-edge care for people in the area.”

Homer Memorial Hospital CEO Scott Landrum said, “Thank you Governor Jindal, State Representative Patrick Jefferson and Senator Walsworth for your help in securing much needed funds for Homer Memorial Hospital. These monies will be used to secure a new digital mammography unit and a bone densitometer. Our patients in both Claiborne Parish and our surrounding service area will be most appreciative of this heightened level of service.”

Rep. Patrick Jefferson said, “This new technology will add to the already great care that is delivered here at Homer Memorial. We're grateful for the work that the doctors, nurses and staff do for all who utilize Homer Memorial.  Homer Memorial is a beacon light in the community and this equipment will help them continue improving the health of Louisianians.”

Sen. Mike Walsworth said, “This equipment will go a long way toward keeping our people healthy and improving their quality of life in this rural area of our state. We'll continue to support Homer Memorial Hospital and other rural hospitals around our state so we can keep offering great care to these communities."

The Governor also highlighted the state’s commitment of $225,000 in capital outlay funds for the ongoing Town Hall renovation in Homer.
