The Governor's Office of Safe and Drug Free Communities (SDFC) is dedicated to serving as support staff to the Drug Policy Board. The Board reviews and recommends policy to eradicate substance abuse and its related consequences in our communities through the work of the Prevention Systems Committee and State Epidemiology Workgroup

The Drug Policy Board, Prevention Systems Committee and State Epidemiology Workgroup have achieved great success in the past several years through the development of the Louisiana Strategic Plan for Substance Abuse Prevention (known as the Governor's Initiative to Build a Healthy Louisiana). This initiative has enabled a collaborative effort across multiple state systems to build a solid foundation for developing, delivering and sustaining an effective evidence-based substance abuse prevention effort for Louisiana's 64 parishes
