Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards applauded the news that North Oaks Health System, one of Louisiana's largest and most progressive community hospital organizations, has joined TRICARE East as a new participating provider.
"There is honor and virtue in choosing to serve our veterans who answered the call to serve our nation," said Gov. John Bel Edwards. "I applaud North Oaks Health System for becoming a TRICARE East provider and increasing access to quality care for our veterans in Louisiana. Given the sacrifices they've made, it is great to see this good news for our veterans."
North Oaks is strategically based between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. For nearly 60 years, they have made it their mission to improve lives, every time and with every touch. Facilities in Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes include an acute care hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, two outpatient diagnostic & treatment centers, an outpatient surgery center, two outpatient rehabilitation clinics, a hospice agency and a growing physician group for primary and specialty care.
Michele K. Sutton, FACHE, North Oaks Health System's President and Chief Executive Officer, shared, "In a complicated health care reimbursement world that most often pays North Oaks less than it costs to provide care to its patients, we still strive to provide quality services to the deserving patients in our community. We value and respect our military members and their families, and are pleased to be in the position to serve them, as they so valiantly served us."
TRICARE offers several different health plans for veterans and their families. January 1, 2018 marked many changes to the TRICARE program. Plan availability varies based on location and other factors. North Oaks Medical Center, North Oaks Rehabilitation Hospital and North Oaks Physician Group became TRICARE program participating providers effective March 1, 2018. The plans they will accept, include: TRICARE Select, Reserve Select, Retired Reserve, Young Adult-Select and TRICARE for Life-Medicare Supplement.
"Our military families welcome the opportunity to get an appointment when they need it, to get a doctor who's willing to listen to their concerns, and to get the care they need," said Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs Joey Strickland. "We appreciate North Oaks Health System working with our veterans and their families to help make their healthcare needs more affordable."
The three TRICARE Regions became two as the North and South Regions have combined to form the new TRICARE East Region. The West Region remains mostly the same. Humana Military is the new regional contractor for TRICARE East, and Health Net Federal Services, LLC, is managing TRICARE West.
