Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards proclaimed May 15 as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” in Louisiana. This day is dedicated to remembering the law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty.

“Law enforcement officers carry the burden of maintaining peace and protecting the citizens of this great state,” Gov. Edwards said. “Too often, our officers make the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe. On this Peace Officers Memorial Day, I urge you to remember our fallen officers and honor the dedicated public servants that routinely put the public’s safety above their own.”
