Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.
Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports serves to develop, foster, and coordinate services and programs of physical fitness and sports for the people of Louisiana. The Council encourages local governments and communities to develop local physical fitness programs and amateur athletic competitions.
Mabon “Beau” Williford, of Lafayette, was reappointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Williford is the Director and Head Coach at Ragin Cajun Amateur Boxing Club.
Jarvis J. Claiborne, of Opelousas, was reappointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Claiborne is an attorney in private practice.
Iberia Parish Levee, Hurricane, and Conservation District
The Iberia Parish Levee, Hurricane, and Conservation District serves to understand the dynamics of flood protection and tidal surge needs specific to Iberia Parish in order to implement a plan for such protection in conjunction with neighboring parishes. The board also determines and identifies funding sources to implement said plan.
Ronald J. Gonsoulin, of New Iberia, was reappointed to the Iberia Parish Levee, Hurricane, and Conservation District. Gonsoulin is the President of Ulysses Gonsoulin and Sons. He is also a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Iberia Parish Council.
