Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.
Traumatic Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund Advisory Board
The Traumatic Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund Advisory Board provides services in a flexible, individualized manner to Louisiana citizens with traumatic head or traumatic spinal cord injuries. The board administers a program which enables individuals to return to a reasonable level of functioning and independent living in their communities.
Andrew O. Kuyoro Sr., of Baton Rouge, was reappointed to the Traumatic Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund Advisory Board. Kuyoro is an engineering tech with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. He will continue to serve as a family member of a survivor of a spinal cord injury.
John T. Fanning, Ph.D., of Jefferson, was reappointed to the Traumatic Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund Advisory Board. Fanning is a clinical neuropsychologist in private practice.
Parish Boards of Election Supervisors
The purpose of the board in each parish is to oversee and supervise all elections within the parish to ensure the safety and accuracy of the democratic process. The Board of Election Supervisors oversees the preparation and conducting of each election in the parish. Each parish’s board is composed of the parish’s registrar of voters, the parish’s clerk of court, the chairman of the parish executive committee of each recognized political party, and one member appointed by the governor.
Jerry W. Chandler, of Benton, was reappointed to the Bossier Parish Board of Election Supervisors. Chandler is the president of American Refrigeration & Ice.
Phyllis M. Harrison, of Hammond, was appointed to the Tangipahoa Parish Board of Election Supervisors. Harrison is a retired deputy clerk of court for Tangipahoa Parish.
Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority
The Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority provides behavioral health and development disability services to the residents of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis and Cameron parishes.
Betty J. Cunningham, of DeRidder, was appointed to the Imperial Calcasieu Human Services Authority. Cunningham is a former member of the Beauregard Parish Police Jury. As required by statute, she will serve as a parent, consumer, or advocate in the field of addictive disorders.
Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board
The Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board provides information and recommendations from the perspective of advocacy groups, service providers, and parents to the Children’s Cabinet.
Brandi L. Huling, of New Orleans, was appointed to the Children’s Cabinet Advisory Board. Huling is an education program consultant with the Louisiana Department of Education and a veteran of the United States Army. As required by statute, she will serve as a representative of the Department of Education’s Special Education Programs.
Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists
The Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists serves to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of all those persons engaged in the practice of geoscience, and affords such persons an effective and practical protection against the incompetent, inexperienced, unlawful, and fraudulent acts of geoscientists with whom they contract.
William H. Schramm, of Walker, was appointed to the Louisiana Board of Professional Geoscientists. Schramm is a registered geoscientist and a retired geologist supervisor. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Baton Rouge Geological Society and will serve as the representative of the 6th Congressional District.
Louisiana State Board of Nursing
The Louisiana State Board of Nursing is responsible for safeguarding the life and health of Louisiana residents through the regulation of persons practicing or offering to practice as a registered nurse. The board also establishes minimum curriculum requirements and approves nursing schools.
Kenneth E. Alexander, of Baton Rouge, was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Alexander is the Vice President of Member Services and Quality Improvement with the Louisiana Hospital Association and a veteran of the United States Army. He will serve as an at-large member on the board.
Pilotage Fee Commission
The Pilotage Fee Commission exists to establish and fix rates and fees charged by commissioned river pilots working on the Mississippi and Calcasieu rivers in the State of Louisiana.
David Gerald Fath, of Lake Charles, was appointed to the Pilotage Fee Commission. Fath is a river and harbor pilot with the Lake Charles Pilots. He will serve as an alternate member representing pilots associations on the commission.
Louisiana Board for Hearing Aid Dealers
The Louisiana Board for Hearing Aid Dealers is responsible for protecting the public welfare by overseeing those persons rendering or offering to render services for the sale, maintenance, and repair of any type of hearing aid device and for examining and licensing hearing aid dealers in the state.
Barbara L. Matens, of Baton Rouge, was appointed to the Louisiana Board for Hearing Aid Dealers. Matens is a geologist and part time senior scribe with Leidos. She will serve as a consumer member on the board.
Board of Regents
The Board of Regents is responsible for planning, coordinating, and budgeting for all public higher education in the state. The Board administers the Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund and formulates a master plan for higher education, including a formula for the equitable distribution of funds.
Gerald J. “Jerry” Theunissen, of Jennings, was appointed to the Board of Regents. Theunissen is a self-employed consultant and a former state legislator. He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force. He will serve as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District.
