Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.
Louisiana Public Defender Board Optimal Funding Group
The Louisiana Public Defender Board Optimal Funding Group’s mission is to ensure public funding of the right to counsel is provided for, free of political and judicial interference, and to provide the right to counsel by qualified and competent council.
Michael A. Mitchell of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Public Defender Board Optimal Funding Group. Mitchell is the district defender and leads the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Defender Office.
Robert S. Noel of Zachary has been appointed to the Louisiana Public Defender Board Optimal Funding Group. Noel is the director of training at the Louisiana Public Defender Board.
Leslie R. Chambers of Prairieville has been appointed to the Louisiana Public Defender Board Optimal Funding Group. Chambers is the criminal law policy advisory to the Office of Governor John Bel Edwards.
Louisiana Behavior Analyst Board
The Louisiana Behavior Analyst Board provides for the licensure, certification and registration of individuals practicing ABA in the state of Louisiana.
Joesph A. Tuminello III, Ph.D. of Lake Charles has been appointed to the Louisiana Behavior Analyst Board. Tuminello is an assistant professor at McNeese State University and will serve as a consumer member.
Reentry Advisory Council
The Reentry Advisory Council was created to establish a more systematic approach to identifying obstacles that impede successful reentry of ex-offenders. The council is charged with developing and implementing effective reentry strategies that improve public safety.
Kathleen E. Carpenter of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Reentry Advisory Council. Carpenter is the director of education for the Associated Builders and Contractors-Pelican Chapter.
Louisiana State Board of Dentistry
The mission of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry is to protect the public by regulating the professions of dentistry and dental hygiene in Louisiana in accordance with the Dental Practice Act.
Carlos A. Zelaya of Chalmette II has been appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. Zelaya is an attorney at Mumphrey-Zelaya and will serve as a consumer member.
Louisiana Military Advisory Council
The Military Advisory Council serves to provide a forum for issues concerning the installations and units of the armed forces located in Louisiana and the military and retired military personnel and their families who reside in Louisiana.
Robert M. Abboud Jr. of Baton Rouge has been appointed to the Louisiana Military Advisory Council. Abboud is the assistant director of Louisiana Economic Development and will serve as the director of the Louisiana Military Advisory Council.
Parish Boards of Election Supervisors
The purpose of the board in each parish is to oversee and supervise all elections within the parish to ensure the safety and accuracy of the democratic process. The Board of Election Supervisors oversees the preparation and conducting of each election in the parish. Each parish’s board is composed of the parish’s registrar of voters, the parish’s clerk of court, the chairman of the parish executive committee of each recognized political party, and one member appointed by the governor.
Darren P. Lombard of New Orleans has been appointed to the Parish Boards of Election Supervisors. Lombard is a clerk at the Second City Court and will serve as election supervisor of Orleans Parish.
Louisiana Statewide Independent Living Council
The mission of SILC is to ensure Louisiana delivers independent living services that are community-based, consumer-controlled, and for all disabilities. The council advocates for these services to be in compliance with requirements of the Title VII of the Rehabilitation Act while acting in accordance with the Independent Living Philosophy.
M. Claudia Garofalo of New Orleans has been appointed to the Louisiana Statewide Independent Living Council. Garofalo is a business consultant at Cowden and Associates and will serve as an individual with a disability.
Red River Parish Port Commission
The Red River Parish Port Commission was established to regulate the commerce and traffic within the port area, consisting of the entire parish of Red River.
Robbie D. Moseley of Coushatta has been appointed to the Red River Parish Port Commission. Moseley is retired and will serve in an at large position.
St. Mary Levee District
The mission of The St. Mary Levee District is to protect the people and property of St. Mary Parish from threats of flooding caused by riverine waters and hurricane storm surges.
Mike M. Ortiz of Patterson has been appointed to the St. Mary Levee District. Ortiz is a behavior support specialist at the St. Mary Parish School Board and will represent the St. Mary Parish Council District 5.
Louisiana Physical Therapy Board
The Louisiana Physical Therapy Board licenses and regulates physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who wish to work in Louisiana. The Board is mandated to interpret the scope of practice for physical therapy, write regulations, and discipline licensees who have violated the law.
Tyra N. Mitchell P.T. of New Orleans has been appointed to the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board. Mitchell is a professor of practice at Tulane University and will serve as a physical therapist. Mitchell will also serve at large.
