Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.  

Louisiana Commission on Human Rights

The role of the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights is to enforce specific laws pertaining to discriminatory practices in the state of Louisiana. To accomplish this purpose, the Commission uses distinct procedures for intake, investigation, mediation, and determination to process official complaints of discrimination.

Julia Mendez Achee of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Achee is the chief consulting officer for HR Unlimited Inc.  She will serve at-large.

Angela K. Faulk of Abbeville has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Faulk is an abstractor for RED Angel Ventures LLC.  She will represent the 3rdCongressional District.

Roxanna F. Foret of Houma has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Foret is a teacher for the Lafourche Parish School District. She will represent the 1stCongressional District.

Courtney L. Hunt of Greenwell Springs has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Hunt is a community engagement specialist for Ochsner Community Health. She will represent the 6th Congressional District.

Terry L. Jackson of Bossier City has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Jackson is an assistant professor of nursing at Northwestern State University and an acute care nurse practitioner. She will represent the 4th Congressional District.

Tamara K. Jacobson of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Jacobson is the president of the Law Offices of Tamara Kluger Jacobson LLC. She will serve at-large and as chair of the commission.

F. Clayton Latimer of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Latimer is a retired attorney for the Department of Children and Family Services and has a private practice focused on children’s issues. She will serve at-large.

Richard G. Perque of New Orleans has been reappointed to the Louisiana Commission on Human Rights. Perque is the president of the Law Offices of Richard G. Perque LLC. He will represent the 2nd Congressional District.

Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs was established by the Governor’s Office to adequately educate, address and resolve issues relative to the disability community. The mission of the office is to promote, encourage and support citizens with disabilities so they may have an equal opportunity to actively participate in all aspects of life.

Marsha N. Andrews of Zachary has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Andrews is a data and development analyst for Louisiana Economic Development FastStart. She will serve at-large.

Dr. Gerlinde G. Beckers of Independence has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Dr. Beckers is an associate professor and director of Lions Connected at Southeastern Louisiana University. She will serve at-large.

Keisha D. Fleming of Addis has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Fleming is a teacher at MSA-East Academy. She will serve at-large.

Nicole S. Johnson Flores of Broussard has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Flores is the executive director of Families Helping Families. She will serve at-large.

Pasqueal M. Nguyen of Youngsville has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Nguyen is a tax practitioner with Brothers Insurance and Title. She will serve at-large.

Tory M. Rocca of New Orleans has been appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Disability Affairs. Rocca is the director of public policy and community engagement with Disability Rights Louisiana. He will serve at-large.

Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition

The Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition serves to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public by providing for the licensure and regulation of persons practicing the profession of dietetics and nutrition.

Anita M. Ferdinand of Paulina has been appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition. Ferdinand is the renal registered dietitian at Davita Crescent City Dialysis. She will serve as a licensed dietitian nominated by the Louisiana Dietetic Association.

Parish Boards of Election Supervisors

The purpose of the board in each parish is to oversee and supervise all elections within the parish to ensure the safety and accuracy of the democratic process. The Board of Election Supervisors oversees the preparation and conducting of each election in the parish. Each parish’s board is composed of the parish’s registrar of voters, the parish’s clerk of court, the chairman of the parish executive committee of each recognized political party, and one member appointed by the governor.

Marvin D. Miles of Plaquemine has been appointed to the Parish Boards of Election Supervisors. Miles is a bus driver for the Iberville Parish School Board. He will serve as an election supervisor of Iberville Parish.

Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System

The Board is responsible for supervising and managing state colleges and universities that are not managed by a higher education board created specifically for such a purpose. The following universities are under the specific supervision and management of the board: Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Louisiana at Monroe and University of New Orleans.

Julie S. Stokes of Metairie has been appointed to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. Stokes is a former Jefferson Parish representative and is the CEO of Flame Consulting. She will represent the 1st Congressional District.

Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors

The Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Director's mission is to regulate embalmers, funeral homes, funeral directors, individuals engaged in the care and disposition of the deceased and handling consumer complaints.

Rev. Shelton C. Dixon of Greenwell Springs has been reappointed to the Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. Dixon is the pastor and founder of Greater Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Baton Rouge. He will serve as a consumer member.
