The Louisiana Department of Health commissioned Dr. Jim Richardson and the Public Administration Institute at Louisiana State University to conduct an independent analysis of the impact of Medicaid expansion on Louisiana’s economy. We know expansion saves the state money - $317 million in savings to date. But what about the indirect effects from the massive influx of federal funds in terms of job creation and tax revenue?
The results speak for themselves—all while over 486,000 people have received critical services like preventive doctor visits, mammograms, and access to mental health services. More information related to patient care, including doctor’s visits, cancer screenings and treatments for mental health and addiction is available at ldh.la.gov/HealthyLaDashboard.
This study shows that Medicaid expansion has improved both the physical and fiscal health of Louisiana. You can read the full report at gov.louisiana.gov/expansion.
