Baton Rouge, LA— Governor Jeff Landry is committed to working with the Legislature to allocate permanent funding in the fiscal budget for domestic violence services, including shelters.
For the last two fiscal years, the Legislature appropriated one-time funding for domestic violence shelters. The Landry Administration is working to end the frivolous cycle of one-time funding for permanent needs. The Administration will work with the Legislature to add base funding for domestic violence services.
“Throughout my years as an elected official, I have never wavered in my support of domestic violence services. They are necessary, live-saving, and essential, and must be treated as such," said Governor Jeff Landry. “That is why I am committed to working with the Legislature to ensure there is a higher funding base for these services, and that it remains permanently in our budget, rather than as one time funding. I am confident that with the help of our great team in the House, Senate, and the Department of Administration we will get this done once and for all.”
A former law enforcement officer, Governor Landry actively worked on domestic violence prevention as Louisiana’s Attorney General including training services for thousands of law enforcement officers and others within the criminal justice system.
“Governor Landry has been a staunch advocate for a reoccurring fund in the state budget directed toward domestic violence services. We will work alongside him to make sure this critical aid is protected— not just for this year, but for every year,” said Commissioner Taylor Barras.
