In this workshop, attendees will learn about Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Accounts, which allow individuals with disabilities and their families to save for the future and build financial independence. Newly offered in Louisiana, ABLE accounts offer flexibility, tax benefits, and most importantly do not interfere with and individual's eligibility for disability benefits such as SSI. During this workshop, we will conduct a real-time walk-through of the online application process for a Louisiana ABLE account, and compare the Louisiana program with ABLE accounts from other states. Attendees will learn the many ways ABLE accounts can be used, their advantages and disadvantages and how they can work together with special needs trusts.
