This is Deaf Focus' upcoming 2nd annual charity event. This is a unique experience with all Deaf servers. The guest will be encouraged to sign their orders and communicate with their servers. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing individuals by showing our local community that American Sign Language is a interactive, fun, culturally rich language available to everyone. We want to emphasize the advocacy work that we at Deaf Focus do and celebrate the successful legislative session which benefited our community tremendously.
We will also be celebrating a milestone: 200 years of American Sign Language and Deaf Education! We will be hosting a interactive Dinner Theatre performance. Ian Sanborn, a Deaf Teacher, Poet, Artist and an 8-year veteran of The National Theatre for the Deaf will be coming all the way from San Francisco to perform for us in sign language. We will also have Blake Breaux, a local artist, play music with a special guest musical interpreter. Pelican House, here in Baton Rouge, has prepared a fresh, brand new, off the menu 3-course meal with several choices. Tickets are $75 each and will benefit our small non-profit organization in support of our continuing advocacy and essential services for our Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing friends in the community.
