Baton Rouge, LA – Gov. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Gov. Larry Rhoden of South Dakota and Premier Doug Ford of Ontario have joined the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Security (GCES), Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry announced today.
These additions bring the GCES membership to 14 U.S. state or Canadian provincial governments. Launched in September, Gov. Landry and former New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu founded the organization to help Americans tackle the high costs of energy and accelerating energy cost inflation.
“We’re excited to have Governors Ayotte and Rhoden join GCES,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “They bring new ideas, strong leadership, and a continued commitment to ensuring their states remain key partners in advancing our vision for effective energy policy that benefits all our citizens. Premier Ford’s addition further strengthens our team, and underscores how deeply connected our two nations are when it comes to energy. Every new leader who joins GCES makes our coalition stronger and better equipped to develop and implement smart, practical policies that keep energy affordable and reliable for our people.”
“In New Hampshire, we’re focused on bringing more reliable, affordable energy to our state so we can lower bills for Granite Staters. I am glad to join Governor Landry and the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Security to continue important conversations about how we can reduce energy prices and embrace new technologies. I look forward to working together with fellow Governors to tackle these challenges and lower costs for families in all of our states,” said Governor Kelly Ayotte.
“I am a firm believer in an all-of-the-above energy approach. South Dakotans deserve reliable, affordable energy and the freedom to choose what power source works best for their homes and businesses,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “Through this Coalition, we will deliver common sense energy policies that strengthen our economy and protect consumer choice.”?
“I’m thrilled to join together with so many American friends to discuss how we can work together to build a stronger, more secure continent and cross-border partnership, which I call Fortress Am-Can,” said Premier Ford of Ontario. “We want to use Ontario’s vast resources — including critical minerals — and energy expertise in nuclear, hydroelectricity and more to support energy security and affordability across the continent so we can support workers and businesses on both sides of the border.”
Premiers Ford and Governors Ayotte and Rhoden join Gov. Landry and 10 other peers: Gov. Kay Ivey (AL), Gov. Brian P. Kemp (GA), Gov. Bill Lee (TN), Gov. Mark Gordon (WY), Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (AR), Gov. Tate Reeves (MS), Gov. J. Kevin Stitt (OK), and Gov. Glenn Youngkin (VA), Premier Danielle Smith of Alberta and Premier Scott Moe of Saskatchewan. Governors Ayotte and Rhoden joined after their predecessors, Gov. Sununu and former South Dakota Governor and current U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and, left office.
GCES is committed to ensuring families and businesses have the right to choose the energy they need, minimizing permitting and other regulatory barriers, limiting expensive energy mandates, focusing on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure, and coordinating to positively manage energy resources and the environment.
