Louisiana Task Force on Fatherhood Engagement

Fatherhood involvement is increasingly recognized as a critical determinant of child well-being, family stability, and long-term social outcomes. National research demonstrates that children with engaged fathers exhibit stronger academic performance, healthier development, and reduced behavioral challenges.

Yet, Louisiana:

  • Ranks 48th on Wallet Hub’s “Best States for Working Dads” list.
  • Ranks 49th on a recent analysis of Child and Family Service Reviews for
    engaging fathers in case planning in child welfare.
  • Has one of the highest male incarceration rates of any state in the nation.
  • Has over 56% of recent fathers whose highest level of education is a high
    school diploma or GED or below.

During the 2025 Louisiana Legislative Session, the Louisiana Legislature passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 9 (SCR 9) to create and provide for the Task Force on Fatherhood Engagement (Task Force) to study how Louisiana can increase the engagement of fathers in the lives of their children, to research best practices, and develop recommendations for each state agency to promote the full inclusion of fathers and the involvement of fathers in the lives of their children.
